Charles Fox is the dean of educators in the field of guitar making. In over thirty years he has introduced hundreds of people to this craft and he counts many of today's successful luthiers among his former students. Charles began building guitars in 1968, and has since built every type, both as an independent luthier and as the head of guitar production shops. In 1973 he founded the first school for guitar makers in North America, the School of the Guitar Research & Design Center in South Strafford, VT. In 1993 Charles founded the American School of Lutherie in Healdsburg, CA. He is also a founder of the Healdsburg Guitar Festival.
We are extremely proud of our students and alumni , who have traveled from all over the world to attend Roberto-Venn. While most of our students do not have prior instrument building experience, they do share a common passion for guitars and many are players as well. It seems that each year we see a more sophisticated knowledge and perception of what guitars are about, how they are made, and their history. Collaborations among students, as well as instructors, continue to benefit all of us as we explore and improve our understanding and abilities in the guitar making art. We hope you'll join us.

A passion of Mark's is to teach the art of Luthery.
He offers several types of apprentice programs tailored to meet the individual (adult) student's needs. Mark feels strongly about the need to continue the art of hand making instruments and loves the teaching process. On any given day there are 1 to 4 students working on various stages of their instruments. Mark also travels to local schools and organiztions to conduct presentations on stringed instruments and luthery. Field trips to Bluett Bros. Violins are common occurences for schools, Brownie Troops and our youngest pre-school friends in the York Pa. area.
